The society was formed in October 1979,

in Lanzhou, by a group of scientists and

engineers (representatively, Jianzhong Jin,

Zhongyi Hua, Benchu Qiu, Shijin Pang, Lei Yuan

et al.

) involved in vacuum science and technique.

The first Executive committee of CVS is formed

of 79 concillors. The prime objectives of CVS

are to encourage and organise many kinds of

academic activities in the field of VST to:

ensure the growth and development of VST,

enhance the popularization and application

of research achievements in VST,

heighten the growth of talents in VST, and

ensure that VST contributes to economic

development and thus makes a significant

contribution to the modernization of China.

In August 1986, the CVS office moved to

Beijing.

The past presidents of the society are:

Pr. Jianzhong Jin

(1979-1988),

Pr. Zhongyi Hua

(1988-1998),

Pr. Shijin Pang

(1998-2004),

Pr. Jianguo Hou

(2004-2014).

The president incumbent,

Pr. Ningsheng Xu,

and

the present Executive Committee (now including

150 persons) were elected by the members of the

society during the 8

th

 CVS National Conference

held in November, 2014. The elected CVS officials

serve a 5-year term of office.

The society has various subcommittees including:

An Editorial Board of the Journal “Chinese

Journal of Vacuum Science and Technology”.

A Technology Advisory and Consulting

Committee.

A Popularizational and Educational Committee

on VST.

A Referee Committee for CVS Scholarship.

An Office of the Chinese Vacuum Website.

The scientific and technical activities of the CVS

are covered by the following Divisions:

Vacuum Engineering. (Formerly Vacuum

Production and Measurement, evolved from

4 Divisions, namely, Vacuum Physics, Vacuum

Production, Vacuum in Nuclear Physics, and

Vacuum Measurement and Calibration).

Surface Science and Nanoscience.

Vacuum Mass Spectroscopy Analysis and

Leak Detection.

Electronic Materials and Devices. (Formerly

Vacuum Application in Electron Devices)

Thin Films.

Vacuum Metallurgy.

Display Technology.

There are 12 Local Chapters of theCVS. These are

located in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Shenzhen,

Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Sichuan

and Shaanxi, Shenyang and Heilongjiang.

The society currently has about 8,000 individual

members and about 390 institutions, including

research institutes, universities and factories, are

affiliated with it. Of these 390 institutions about

200 are industrial firms.

The CVS is a non-official organisation and

provides a wide variety of services to its members

including:

Organizing all kinds of academic activities to

promote exchange and cooperation in the field

of VST both domestically and internationally.

Editing the journal “Vacuum Science and

Technology (China)” and producing various

types of printed and audio/video publications.

The Chinese Vacuum Society (CVS) is a non-governmental, national organisation of those

professionals who are interested in vacuum science and technology (VST) from most of the

research institutes, universities and manufacturers of vacuum products in China. The CVS is

affiliated with the China Association for Science andTechnology (CAST).
