Public professional associations in
the USSR and the Russian Federation –
organizers of scientific and information
activities in the field of vacuum physics,
vacuum engineering and technology
(1960-2017).
•
Committee on the vacuum apparatus and
instrument engineering of the Leningrad regional
board of the Vavilov Scientific-technical society
of the instrument-making industry. 1960-1971.
•
All-Union Section of the Vacuum Equipment
and Instrument-Making of the Central Board
of the Vavilov Scientific-technical society of the
instrument-making industry. 1971-1991.
•
Russian scientific and technical vacuum
society. It was created in 1992 under the
guidance of Professor Bykov D.V., and was
active mainly inside the country. Simultaneously
existed the Russian National Committee for
Vacuum Science and Techniques (RNCVST)
with Professor Vitas A. Grazhulis as president.
Members of this committee, and especially
V. Grazhulis, supported an active relationship
with IUVSTA. They took part in IUVSTA
meetings and RNCVST was responsible
for the annual subscription to IUVSTA. This
national committee was formally admitted
as a member of IUVSTA in 1992. In 1998,
after Prof. V. A. Grazhulis passed away, both
organisations were combined under the
guidance of Prof. D. V. Bykov. The name of
that organisation was the “Russian Scientific
and Technical Vacuum Society” (RSTVS).
•
Since 2015, the President of the RSTVVS is
Prof. Nesterov S.B. The structure of RSTVVS
includes more than 2,500 members. Vice-presidentsof theRSTVVSareProf. Yu.V. Panfilov,
Academician of the Russian Academy of
Sciences A.S. Bugaev, Ph. D.E.N. Kapustin,
secretary – Ph. D.L.L. Kolesnik.
Main objectives of the RSTVVS
•
Integration of the advanced part of scientists
and engineers to build up intellectual potential
in the field of scientific and engineering
activities, help to accelerate scientific and
technological progress.
•
Facilitating the development of fundamental
and applied research in the fields of science
using vacuum equipment and technology.
•
Professional consolidation, strengthening and
development of professional contacts and
humanitarian contacts between specialists
dealing with issues of vacuum equipment and
technology.
•
Facilitating the development of scientific and
technical creativity, creating the most favorable
conditions for the work of the members of the
Organization.
•
Representing legitimate interests, promoting
protection of professional, civic, social,
copyright and other rights of members.
•
Assistance in the development and imple-
mentation of international, national, regional
projects and programs in the field of science
and education.
The time of the birth of electronic vacuum devices in Russia should be considered 1920,
when almost simultaneously there were four scientific and technical groups engaged in the
production and use of high vacuum. Academician S.A. Vekshinsky (1896-1974) is one of the
founders of Russian vacuum technology. In Moscow in 2016 one of the streets was given
his name – the street of Academician S.A. Vekshinsky. The rapid development of vacuum
technology in the USSR in the postwar years was determined by work in the following areas:
nuclear project, space exploration, electronics, electrophysical apparatus engineering.
