The

Asociación Física Argentina

represents

researchers in all branches of physics and also

bachelor and PhD students in Argentina. There

are several branches and the main office is

located in the city of La Plata.

The AFA was founded in the city of La Plata in

1944. The founding members were Drs. José

Balseiro, Antonio Rodriguez, Guido Beck, Enrique

Gaviola, Enrique Loedel Palumbo, Ernesto

Galloni, Marco Poggio, and Ernesto Bertomeu

among others. There is one big annual meeting

that gathers together all the people working

in physics and astronomy related topicts.

The association has around 1,100 active

members (350 women and 750 men) and

400 student members. The first president of AFA

was Prof. Enrique Gaviola. The president in office

for the period 2016-2018 is Prof. Dr. Gustavo

Monti from the Universidad Nacional de Cordoba.

AFA entered IUVSTA following the suggestions

and help of Prof. Monika Jenko from the

Slovenian Vacuum Society and Dr. Maria Carmen

Asensio from the French Vacuum Society. The

AFA representation at IUVSTA started at the

19

th

 International Vacuum Congress IVC-19 in

Paris (France) September 9-13, 2013, where our

association was recognised as a member in full

representation of all the associations related to

vacuum sciences fromArgentina. Threemembers

attended this conference. Profs. Drs. Julio Ferron

and Edith Goldberg from Instituto de Fisica del

Litoral (IFL, Santa Fe), and Prof. Dr. Alfredo Juan

from Instituto de Fisica del Sur (IFISUR, Bahia

Blanca).

The aims and objectives of the AFA and the

other mentioned scientific associations are: to

promote and develop science and technology,

to inform and educate society members and

interested community, to encourage and support

science applications, and to assist and represent

its members. These goals are achieved by

gathering professionals and individuals active

in the physical science areas, by promoting

advancement in science, industry and other

areas, by organizing meetings – conferences,

workshops, seminars and courses – on appropriate

topics, by encouraging cooperation and colla

boration among the society members, and by

Argentina is represented at IUVSTA through Asociación Fisica Argentina (AFA) in agreement

with

Asociación Argentina de Fisicoquimica y Quimica Inorgánica

(AAFQI),

Asociación

Química Argentina

(AQA),

Sociedad Argentina de Catalisis

(SAC) and

Sociedad Argentina de

Materiales

(SAM). Our country does not have a Vacuum Society yet. Although not formally

organized, the Argentinean vacuum experts form a stable group of physicists, chemists and

chemical engineers working mainly in the cities of Buenos Aires, La Plata, Santa Fe, San Luis,

San Carlos de Bariloche and Bahia Blanca.

Semiconductor thin film growth system by molecular

Beam Epitaxy - Riber, designed for the growth of

thin films III-V (AlAs-AlGaAs) and placed in a class

10,000 cleanroom at the Institute of Nanoscience and

Nanotechnology, Bariloche Atomic Center, National

Atomic Energy Commission.
