intensified cooperation with IUVSTA, which

continued through successive presidential

mandates of B. Pivac (2008-2010), S. Miloševi

(2011-2016) and current mandate of M. Buljan

(2017-).

The aims and objectives of the HVD/CVS are

to promote and advance vacuum science and

technology, to inform and educate society

members and interested community, to

encourage and support the VST applications,

and to assist to and represent the HVD members.

These goals are to be achieved by organizing

professionals and individuals active in the VST

areas, by promoting and advancement of the

VST in science, industry and other areas, by

organizing meetings - conferences, workshops,

seminars, courses - on appropriate topics, by

professional cooperation and collaboration

among the society members, and by encouraging

students and young researchers to study and

excel in VST knowledge and practice.

Membership in the HVD is either individual

(regular, honorary, young) or collective (suppor

ting institutions). In 2017, the HVD counts

81 individual members, and 3 collective

members. Governing bodies of the HVD/CVS are:

1. Assembly 2. Managing Board 3. President, and

4. Supervisory Board. CVS Assembly regularly

convenes every year, and the elected bodies have

a 3-yrs mandates. HVD is a member society of the

Croatian Engineering Association (HIS).

Since 1993, the CVS is organizing a bilateral

annual meeting with the Slovenian Vacuum

Society, with alternate hosting every other year.

The Book of Abstracts is regularly published, and

selected papers are occasionally published in the

journal Strojarstvo/ Engineering.

From the 1995 CVS joined the Austrian,

Hungarian, and Slovenian Vacuum Societies as

the organizer of what is now known as biennial

Joint Vacuum Conference. In that capacity, CVS

organized two JVC meetings (both sponsored

by the IUVSTA): JVC-8 (2000, Pula), and joint

JVC-14/EVC-12/AMDVG-11/CroSloVM-19

conference, (2012, Dubrovnik). Selected papers

of both JVCs are published in Vacuum.

The interaction with IUVSTA intensified during

the past two decades. As a rule, HVD president

is also a Councilor for Croatia, and the HVD

nominates representatives in every IUVSTA

scientific division. Some of them served as

divisional or committee officers – N. Radi as

TFD Secretary (2004-2007) and vice-chair

(2007-2010), LRPC Secretary (2010-2013), CPC

Vice-Chair (2013-2016), I. Capan as EMPD Chair

(2013-2019), and M. Petravi as ASSD Vice-

chair (2016-2019). N. Radi also established

and coordinated (2001-2005) IUVSTA Technical

Training Courses program.

The HVD hosted two ECMs in Dubrovnik:

ECM-93 (2003), and ECM-119 (2014).

As mentioned earlier, the ECM-8 was held in

Zagreb on 28 September 1966.

The 50

th

 IUVSTAWorkshop “Novel Nanostructure-

based Devices” organized by Nanometer Science

Division was held in Dubrovnik, Oct 22-27, 2006.

As a member of Consortium of nine national

Vacuum Societies, HVD coorganized the IVC-19

in Paris (2013), with N. Radi being Organizing

Committee Vice-chair. The 16

th

 International

Conference on Thin Films (ICTF16, 2014), was

jointly organized by HVD, Hungarian VS, and

Slovenian VS and held in Dubrovnik, Croatia.

Nowadays, the HVD is a stable and mature

vacuum society fully integrated in IUVSTA and

regional scientific community, with the aim to

further growth by inclusion of professionals from

industry and Life and health science.
