National Vacuum

Conference held from 5-6 February 2013 at Shahid

Chamran University, Ahwaz city, in the south-west of Iran.

VSI Founders:

Jalil Badraghi (Institute of Applied Sciences of

the Jahad Daneshgahi in the Shahid Beheshi

University in Tehran), Esmail Esmailzadeh (Tabriz

University), Late Aliasghar Hosseini (Mazendaran

University), Azam Irajizad (Sharif University of

Technology), Davood Kalhor (Jahad Danesh-

gahi Branch at Sharif University of Technology ),

Mohamad Khorasani (Shahid Beheshti Univer-

sity), Mohamad Rouzati (Gilan University), Ebra-

him Shirani (Isfahan University of Technology),

Mohamad Hossein Tayarani (Ferdowsi University

of Mashhad), Hadi Maleki (Nuclear Research

Institute), Ghazanfar Mirjalili (Yazd University)

and Alireza Z. Moshfegh (Sharif University of

Technology).

The First Board of Directors and Inspector

(2004-2007):

All members of the board of directors and

inspector were selected by general assembly

for a period of three years. The first members

were: Late Dr. Aliasghar Hosseini (vice

president, deceased in 2015), Dr. Mohamad

Hossein Tayarani (board member), Dr. Seyed

Hossein Keshmiri (board member), Dr. Morteza

Zargar Shoushtari (board member), Mr. Kuros

Hamzeh (inspector) and Dr. Alireza Z. Moshfegh

(President).

Types of VSI Membership:

Membership in the VSI is either individual

(Continuous, Associate, Student, and Honor-

ary Membership) or organisational/company

(supporting institutions). In 2017, the VSI counts

448 individual members, and 10 corporate

members.

IUVSTA membership:

The Vacuum Society of Iran officially was granted

a full membership in the 16

th

General Meeting

(GM16) of the International Union for Vacuum

Science, Technique and Applications (IUVSTA)

which was held in Stockholm, Sweden, on 4 July

2007.

VASSCAA membership:

To boost its international activities, the Vacuum

Society of Iran officially admitted to a big forum

called the Vacuum and Surface Science Confer-

ence of Asia and Australia (VASSCAA) in Febru-

ary 2009. It joined to other countries such as

Australia, China, India, Japan, Pakistan, and

South Korea. This conference is held bi-annually

in a member country and endorsed by IUVSTA.

Currently Philippines and Taiwan joined to this

organisation.

VSI Committees:

All activities of the VSI are planned and conducted

in the following committees:

Specialized groups including Thin films, Surface

physics, Vacuum science and technology,

Nanostructures, Plasma physics, Vacuum

metallurgy, Electronic materials and their fabri-

cation process

b)

Education and Research Committee

c)

Publications Committee

d)

Public Relations and Admission Committee

e)

Committee responsible for

organizing

scientific

and technological events

f)

Committee responsible for establishing tie and

connections with industry

g)

Standards Committee

VacuumTechnology Standard development:

The standard committee of VSI is active in devel-

opment and approval of national vacuum tech-

nology standards, with ISIRI (National Standard

Organisation of I.R. of Iran). This committee is

cooperating with International Standardization

Organisation (ISO) in developing new vacuum

standards. The standard committee is in charge

of the corresponding Vacuum Technology Tech-

nical Committee TC112 of ISO in the nation. Iran

as a participating member of ISO-TC112 actively

contributes to development of international

vacuum standards.

Conferences and Workshops:

In order to promote and advance the science

and technology of vacuum among scientists,

engineers and practitioners in Iran, the VSI

organizes

bi-annual national conferences, work-

shops and exhibition. In addition, topical semi-

nars on science and technology of vacuum are

held in the year’s in-between. Moreover, every

year about 20 technical courses and workshops

are organised in different universities and relevant

industries across the nation.
