Society. The current President is Pr. J. A. Martín
Gago and Dra. E. Román is Secretary General.
ASEVA is structured keeping the same divisions
than the IUVSTA, and representatives of the
associates are named every two years. Thus,
the following scientific and technical areas are
covered: Vacuum Science and Technology,
Surface Science, Applied Surface Science,
Nanotechnology, Electronic Materials, Thin Films,
Fusion Technology, Metallurgy and Hard Coatings
and Biointerfaces. The Spanish Vacuum Society
has remainedas an activeparticipant in the IUVSTA
activities and administrative tasks. Importantly,
Pr. J. L. de Segovia served as President of
IUVSTA from 1989 to 1992. ASEVA is very active
in the organisation of different international events
endorsed by IUVSTA. We would like to remark the
organisation of the following events:
•
Host of Executive Committee meetings of
the IUVSTA: Madrid in 1972, Ávila in 1990,
Segovia in 1996 and more recently, ECM-97
(Lanzarote, Canary Islands, February 18-20,
2005)
•
9
th
-IVC International Vacuum Congress and
5
th
-ICSS International Conference on Solid
Surfaces in Madrid in 1983. This was the first
Congress in which the host country worked
closely with the IUVSTA Divisions in planning
the scientific program of the Congress along
lines drawn up by Professor de Segovia whilst
he was Chairman of the IUVSTA Congress
Planning Committee.
•
ICFSI-9: 9
th
International conference on the
formation of semiconductor interfaces (Madrid,
September 15-19, 2003)
•
EVC: 7
th
and 11
th
editions of the European
Vacuum Conference. Madrid- 2001 and
Salamanca, Sep. 20-24, 2010
•
Series of Iberian Vacuum Meetings (RIVA)
conferences. These conferences are organised
together with the Portuguese vacuum society
(SOPORVAC) from 1985. Also, organised with
the series of European Topical Conferences on
Hard Coatings.
•
Permanent Summer Schools and workshops
in Avila (Spain). From 1999 until present,
ASEVA has a long tradition in organising
international scientific workshops and schools
in Avila. Many of these have being held
concurrently or sequentially. Subjects have
included: Water Reactivity: Gas-Solid and
Liquid-Solid Interfaces; Surface Treatments for
Ultra High Vacuum Devices; Materials for Gas
Sensors; Carbon and Carbon Compounds;
Electron Spectroscopies and Strongly
Correlated Electron Systems; Physical
Basis and Technology of Absolute Pressure
Measurements (2,000 mbar to low vacuum)…
With regard to publishing, the Society has
published the Proceedings of its own National
Vacuum Meetings and some of the other
international conferences. It has also published
a Spanish version of the IUVSTA Visual Aids
Project and a text on Vacuum Science and
Technology.
From 2016 a new directive board was elected
in the General Assembly. This board is chaired
by Pr. Jose A. Martin-Gago and it has the
commitment of updating the society to the new
times. A series of reinvigorating actions are
presently carried out, as changing the statutes
to have a more agile administrative instrument,
paying especial attention to the communication
with the members through the web page and
emails, promoting awards and scientific activities,
to have more presence and visibility in the
scientific-life of Spain, integration of the vacuum
companies… In summary, we are involved in a
process to adjust the society to the social and
scientific requests of the present times.
The new logo of the society has been the winner
of an open national context. The new web page
