Channelling VST into different related industries.
•
Providing an advisory service and/or decision
-making recommendations and technical consul-
tations to industrial companies and various
government departments on R&D strategy.
•
Popularizing VST by offering training programs
to engineers, high-school students and laid-off
workers.
•
Organizing exhibitions of the latest R&D,
advanced technology and new products in the
field of VST.
•
Organizing in-service training for scientists,
engineers and technicians, and thus providing
continuous education.
The CVS Science and Technology Achievements
Award (biennially) has been presented by the CVS
since 1993, as well as the CVS Youth Science
and Technology Innovation Award (biennially)
since 2008. In addition, the Scholarship of
Excellent Master Degree for Vacuum Science
and Technology, and the Thesis Award of Master
and Doctor Degree for Vacuum Science and
Technology have been presented annually since
1990.
The Chinese Vacuum Society has become a
formal member of IUVSTA (International Union of
Vacuum Science Technology and Applications)
since 1983. During the past three dacades, the
CVS presidents (Zhongyi Hua, Shijing Pang,
Jianguo Hou, and Ningsheng Xu) served as
councilors of IUVSTA, and many representatives
fromChina served in a variety of IUVSTA divisions.
Some of them served as committee or divisional
officers, for example, Hongjun Gao as Scientific
Secretary (2004-2007) and chair of Nanometer
Structure Division (2010-2013).
On the 95
th
Executive Concillor Meeting of
IUVSTA in June 2004, the Chinese Vacuum
Society was voted to host the 18
th
Vacuum
International Congress (IVC-18) in 2010.
On August 22-26, 2010, the 18
th
Vacuum
International Congress and the International
vacuum Exhibition were successfully hosted
by the Chinese Vacuum Society in Beijing,
accompanied by the International Conference
of Nano-Science and Technology (ICN+T2010),
the 15
th
International Conference on Scanning
Tunneling Microscopy and Related Technologies
(ICSTM-15), the 14
th
International Conference
on Solid Surfaces (ICSS-14), and the
5
th
Vacuum And Surface Science Conference
of Asia and Australia (VASSCAA-5), etc.
More than 2,000 participants including Nobel
Prize Laureates, and international renowned
scientists in vacuum and related fields
attended the conference. The organisation
and academic level of the conference has
acheived affirmative evalution and widespread
praises from the IUVSTA members and global
representatives. During the same period, the
ECM-109, ECM-110, and the 17
th
General
Meeting (GM-17) of IUVSTA were also
successfully organised in Beijing by the CVS.
These meetings held in China have successfully
strengthened the communication and coope-
ration between the CVS and IUVSTA (including
its members), and have demonstrated the
rapid development and recent achievements
of China in vacuum science and technology,
and in the related fields (e.g. nano-technology,
electronicsandoptoelectronic,spacetechnology,
new energy and advanced materials, etc.).
The CVS will continue making contributions to
the activities in fields related to the development
and application of vacuum.
