The purpose and principal objectives of the
Society are the extension and dissemination of
knowledge of vacuum science and technology
(schools and workshops for young scientists
are organised) as well as inspiring and arranging
wide collaboration between specialists from
industry, business and scientific institutions (join
conferences and workshops).
The officers of the Society include the President,
President-Elect, Past President, Secretary and
Scientific Secretary. Currently the Society has
about 150 active members and 13 collective
members (companies and scientific institutions
more or less equal numbers). About 15% of the
members are employed outside of research,
science and teaching institutions.
For its scientific and technological activities the
PVS was divided into four Sections: Thin Films,
Surface Science, Plasma Surface Engineering
and Vacuum Technique. A new Section was
included in the year 2017, following a fast
development of Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD)
groups in Poland. The first meeting of ALD
groups took place in June 2017, followed by the
first international conference organized in March
2018. The alter conference (on high-k oxides)
was co-organized with the ALD group from
Dresden, Germany.
The Sections organise various conferences,
seminars and workshops, such as: a Seminar
of Surface Science and Thin Film Structure, and
a Summer School of Modern Plasma Surface
Technology (held every year), a Workshop on
MBE Growth Physics, an International Seminar
on Semiconductor Gas Sensors (SGS), an Inter
national Seminar on Semiconductor Surface
Passivation (SSP), and a Conference on Vacuum
Technique (held every two years). In addition, a
full Congress of the PVS is held every third year.
During these Congresses a new President of the
PVS, President Elect and officers of the Society
are elected. The next Congress is planned for
September 2019.
In terms of publications, the PVS edited the
Bulletin “Vacuum Technique and Vacuum
Technologies”, in Polish, twice a year as an
attachment to the journal “Elektronika”. This
Bulletin is now published only in digital format on
the internet on the PVS’s website.
Each year the Groszkowski Award is presented
by the PVS for the best M.Sc. diploma and
Ph.D. theses on vacuum technique, technology
and applications. The candidates are selected
by a jury consisting of the officers of the PVS.
Prestigious PVS Science Prize, and a PVS Medal
for small producers or the best product and
technology are also granted.
