likeminded practitioners. In less than a year after
incorporation, the 1
st
International Symposium of
the Vacuum Society of the Philippines was held
on January 14-15, 2016 at the Ateneo de Manila
University. This event showcased the various
capabilities in vacuum and plasma research in
the Philippines and with other collaborating insti-
tutions. With a growing network of profession-
als, the society is hopeful that this will continue
for more future conferences held biannually.
The society is still young but the initial steps in
forming a national institution for the promotion of
plasma and vacuum in the Philippines are already
in the right direction. The VSP will forge a new
beginning for the advancement of vacuum tech-
nology, plasma science, and allied fields in the
Philippines.
