In 1981 this Committee was incorporated into
the Society of Polish Electricians as a section
under the name: Polish National Committee
for Vacuum Technique and Technology. The
first President of the Polish National Committee
for Vacuum Technique and Technology was
Prof. B. Paszkowski (Warsaw University of
Technology) and the first Honorary President
was Prof. J. Groszkowski (Warsaw University of
Technology).
In 1992, the Polish National Committee for
Vacuum Technique and Technology separated
from the Society of Polish Electricians and started
its independent activity as the Polish Vacuum
Society (PVS). The first President, in the years
1992-1995, was Prof. A. Halas from Wroclaw
University of Technology. The next Presidents
were Prof. M. Szymonski (Jagielonian University
Krakow) in the years 1995-1998, Prof. M. Herman
(Institute of Physics Polish Academy of Sciences)
in the years 1998-2001, Prof. A. Ciszewski
(Wroclaw University) in the years 2001-2004,
Prof. M. Szymonski (Jagielonian University
Krakow) in the years 2004-2007, Prof. L. Michalak
(M. Curie-Sklodowska University Lublin) in the
years 2007-2008, Prof. S. Halas (M. Curie-
Sklodowska University Lublin) in the years 2008-
2010, Prof. J. Szuber (Silesia Technical University)
in the years 2010-2013, Prof. L. Markowski
(Wroclaw University) in the years 2013-2016. The
current President is Prof. M. Godlewski from the
Institute of Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences.
He is the President from 2016 to 2019.
At the initiative of Prof. Janusz Groszkowski [professor of theWarsaw University ofTechnology
and president of the Polish Academy of Sciences (1961-72)], in 1964 the Polish National
Committee for Vacuum Technique was founded, that assembled scientists and engineers
working with vacuum, at universities, scientific and research institutes and industry. This
Committee has been a member of IUVSTA since 1965.
