on recent advances in a number of fields

related to vacuum science and technology,

on October 1, 2012 was organised by SVS in

Bratislava.

SVS also took part on European Vacuum

Conference (EVC 12) co-organisation which

took place in Dubrovnik in June 4-8, 2012.

SVS was also co-organizer of International

Vacuum Congress IVC-19 with French

Vacuum Society as main organizer in Paris on

September 6-14, 2013.

SVS participates on regular basis in event

Pragovac organised each year by Czech

Vacuum Society as a meeting of researchers

and scientists with vacuum company

representatives.

Maybe it should be mentioned here that Slovak

part of the Czechoslovak Organization was

granted by Welch Scholarship in 1970.

Schools of VacuumTechnology.

Since 2003 SVS organizes every year School of

Vacuum Technology. This event was originally

meant to help students, PhD. students and

young researchers working on vacuum related

topics to present results of their recent research

work. Let us just mention topics for events

from 2003 to 2016: “Diamond and Diamond

Layers, Physics and Applications”; “Physics

and Technology on Diamond Layer Growth”;

„Nanotechnologies and Vacuum”; “Vacuum in

Industrial Praxis”; “Vacuum Technologies – New

Trends in Research and Applications”; “Mutual

Collaboration of Institutions = Top Research

(Focused on Vacuum Technologies)”; “Vacuum

and Nanotechnologies”; “Vacuum and Praxis”;

“Vacuum and Advanced Materials”; “Progressive

Materials and Vacuum”; “Perspective Vacuum

Methods and Technologies”; “Material Analysis in

Vacuum”; “Nanoworld with Vacuum”.

In 2017 SVS did co-organise the School

“Preparation and Characterization of Thin

Films at Lower Pressures” together with Czech

Vacuum Society (CVS) as the main organizer in

Topolčianky, Slovakia on May 29-June 2.

Vacuum Seminars

Several one-day seminars were held on various

topics and occasions, with some of them

being organised in co-operation with other

institutions: - “Vacuum Technology in Slovakia”

(September 28, 1994) - “Vacuum and Plasma

Technologies and their Current and Future

Applications in Manufacture” (September 21,

1995) - “Thin Films: Preparation and Technical

Applications” ( December 5, 1996) - “100 Years

Since the Discovery of the Electron” (April 29,

1997) - “50 Years Since the Discovery of the

Transistor” (December 17, 1997) - “Physics

and Technology of the Growth of Diamond

Layers” (November 25, 1998) - “Diamond and

Diamond-like Films: Physics and Applications”

(16 February 16, 2000). On November 11,

2010 SVS has hosted a Seminar given by Tetsuo

Oikawa „Advanced Analytical TEM for Nano-

materials and Advanced Specimen Preparation

for Analytical TEM“. Ondrej Krivanek, founder

and president of Nion Company in USA did give a

seminar “Electron-optical methods for molecular

and atomic-level characterization” on March 13,

2017 at STU in Bratislava, organised by SVS.

SVS did coorganize seminar given by Dr. Nam

Dong Kim from KIST Korea: “Carbon nano-engineering for the improved hybrid structures”

on October 20, 2017.

Final Remarks

At present the Slovak Vacuum Society is a well

established organisation. It has his place among

Scientific Organizations in Slovak Republic. The

main representative of the Society, its President,

Robert Redhammer is also Rector of the Slovak

University of Technology in Bratislava.

SVS has always supported the work of IUVSTA

having responsible persons as Councillors

and Alternate Councillors. Also nominations of

members to all IUVSTA Divisions took place in

each triennium. SVS is active in organisation and

co-organisation of most series of IUVSTA events,

namely ECMs, EVCs, JVCs and ICTFs.

Participants at the ECM114 in Bratislava,

September 28-30, 2012.
